Catal Huyuk Story

Catal Huyuk

Tick – 1,000.  Tick – 2,000. Tick – 3, 000.  Tick – 4,000; 5,000; 6,000; 7,000; 8,000 years ago.  I open my eyes.  It worked!  The time travel machine didn’t malfunction!  I have always been nervous about time travel, especially when I am the first to try the machine, like now, but I should tell you why I’m here.  TIME TRAVEL invites you to join me at Catal Huyuk, Turkey.

Water Sky, by Jean Craighead George

Water Sky

By Jean Craighead George

The story, Water Sky, is about a boy named Lincoln Noah Stonewright.  Lincoln flies in a plane all the way to Barrow, Alaska. There he hopes to find Uncle Jack who disappeared there a long time ago.  In Barrow he meets Vincent Ologak, a whaling captain.  Uncle Jack went to talk to Vincent about limitations for whaling to prevent extinction.  All the Eskimo captain can think about though, is that the whale named Nukik will give himself to Lincoln Noah.  It was an ancient belief that animals would give themselves for a good cause to a worthy person. This would end years of suffering against Vincent’s people.

The Silk Road

Jiayuguan Pass

Jiayuguan Pass had a location that benefited China.  The Jiayuguan Tower was cunningly placed between the Qinlian and Mazong Mountains, and near the Taolai River.  This way the fortress could overlook both the east-western passageway and to the west the Great Wall.  Jiayuguan Pass became a useful stronghold for military defense.

Samarkand was just one of the cities that flourished during the time of the Silk Road.  Samarkand had a great many exports and therefore many imports and ideas came in.  Chinese painting became a role model for the Islamic painting.  Beautiful porcelain ceramics came from China in blue and white.

Pegasus Poem

As I look down from up high in the sky,

I, Pegasus, see all and remember.

The great heroes of my life,

Whirl about my memory.

While trapped within Medusa the Gorgon,

I new someday my hero would come,

And come he did, and set me free.

Perseus!  Off came Medusa’s head.

Out! Out! to the Muses I came!

Free! Free! running with glee!

Fly! Fly! joy everywhere!

Wild stallion of the sky.

Then one day, while I was out,
